First Visit

Your First Visit: What to Expect

Starting a new health journey can feel overwhelming, but at CB Acupuncture, your comfort and safety are our top priorities. Here is what you can look forward to during your first session.

1. The Initial Consultation

Your first appointment is a bit longer than follow-up visits (usually 60 minutes). We will sit down and discuss your full medical history, current symptoms, and your long-term health goals. This “big picture” approach allows us to create a treatment plan tailored specifically to you.

2. Traditional Assessment

In addition to our conversation, I may use traditional diagnostic tools:

  • Pulse Diagnosis: Feeling the rhythm and quality of the pulse on your wrist.
  • Tongue Observation: Examining the color and coating of the tongue to understand your internal health.
  • Physical Exam: A brief assessment of any painful areas or limited range of motion.

3. The Acupuncture Treatment

Once we have a plan, you will rest comfortably on a padded heated table.

  • Needle Insertion: I use ultra-fine, sterile, single-use needles about the width of a human hair. Most patients feel a tiny pinch or nothing at all.
  • Relaxation Phase: Once the needles are placed, you will rest quietly in a calming environment for 20–30 minutes. Many of our patients find this so relaxing they fall asleep!
  • Sensations: It is normal to feel a gentle warmth, tingling, or a heavy sensation—these are signs that the treatment is working.
  • Cupping, Gua Sha, and TuiNa may also be used during the treatment based on the patient’s needs.

How to Prepare

  • What to Wear: Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your arms and legs.
  • Eating: Have a light meal or snack an hour or two before your visit; avoid arriving on an empty stomach.

After Your Session

Most people leave feeling deeply relaxed or energized. We recommend staying hydrated and avoiding strenuous workouts for the remainder of the day to allow your body to fully process the treatment.
