Gua Sha

Gua sha is a therapeutic technique rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles, focusing on balancing Qi (energy) in the body where the skin is scraped to produce light Petechia.   The practitioner will use a smooth-edged tool, often made of jade or stainless steel, to scrape the skin with the goal of releasing muscle tension and improving circulation in the affected areas. The technique may leave temporary red marks, known as “sha,” indicating blood flow improvement.  Practitioners believe that Gua Sa releases unhealthy bodily matter from blood stasis within sore, tired, stiff or injured muscle areas to stimulate new oxygenated blood flow to the areas, thus promoting metabolic cell repair, regeneration, healing and recovery. Gua sha is sometimes referred to as “scraping” or “spooning”. Gua sha is believed to help with pain relief, inflammation, respiratory issues, and overall wellness.  A great tool to assist you on your healing journey.
